Aqua Blue Fronted Melanistic Rainbow.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

The Aqua Blue fronted Melanistic Rainbow has been around in very, very small numbers. The Aqua line was started here at Utopia birds back in 1995. At the time we weren't sure what we were working with, only to say that the colour had a sea-water look about it and so the Aqua colour name was born. Through the years this colour has proven to be dominant, when bred to a normal it can reproduce itself. The colour looks the same as the Co/dominant Jade coloured bird, but the difference is that two Jades can produce the true double factor Co/dominant Olive. The Aqua can only produce itself or bred to a Grey-Green, produce a Grey-Green with a darker silvery-blackish head colour. These Grey-Greens can then produce Aqua again because they have the Aqua in their bloodline. Still, two Aquas can't produce a Grey-Green, so the colour is dominant and produces itself when the blood has been introduced to a new colour. In Aqua, as in the Jade colouring, the hen birds show stronger colouring than the cock birds and the photos will show that it is hard to tell the difference between a good Aqua and a Jade when it comes to the hen birds. The photos on this page will show you the differences and make it clearer.

Below are two Aqua Blue photos of a young bird taken in April 2007.

Here you can compare the three colours, Jade, Aqua and the normal colour.

As can be seen in the photo on the left, the Aqua Blue Fronted Rainbow lorikeet has black under wing colouration as in the normal Blue Fronted colour type.

Dilute Aqua ( Cinnamon ) Rainbow Lorikeet.

This new colour will be an very nice addition to the list of colours in existents in 2008.
Here we are using recessive Dilute combined with the Dominant Aqua mutation..
